the 'global vote' for president

What would happen if the whole world could vote in next month's U.S. presidential election?

The folks at the EGlobal_electoral_college map for the US presidential race between Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCainconomist have launched an international poll asking just that. And they're taking this hypothetical seriously -- they've even redrawn the electoral map.

In the Britain-based magazine's Global Electoral College, each country is given at least three electoral-college votes. Countries are allocated more votes in proportion to their population size. Under the system, for example, the United States has 432 votes. China has 1,900. Iran has 104.

So let's get back to the big question: Who would win the global vote, John McCain or Barack Obama? Well, voting in the Global Electoral College doesn't close until Nov. 1, but early returns show Obama with a massive lead.

The Democrat has 8,482 electoral-college votes. The Republican has just 16.

I think it was be crazy if the world could vote for the president!! There is a clear winner there! But still, it kinda would make sense because whoever is the president affects the world, because they make choices about other countries too. Maybe someday the whole world will vote! That's just silly though. :D

THAT WOULD TAKE FOREVER IF EVERYONE COULD VOTE. THEY'D BE CAMPAIGNING ALL OVER THE WORLD INSTEAD OF JUST THE US. AND THEY'RE NOT THE PRESIDENT OF THE WHOLE WORLD, JUST USA SO USA SHOULD HAVE THE ONLY VOTE.

I think that if the whole world could vote it'd be a lot of WORK, but it would be sweet! Obama would win, but I don't know why...

If the whole world could vote then i think its clear that Obama would win. I don't think at all that we should have the whole world vote though. The president is just of the United States, so our country should be the ones voting, not the rest of the world.

just people in the U.S. and U.S. citizens should vote because the president is only president of our country not the world.

i dont think itll ever come down to the whole world voting for our president but i think that it shows that obama will have the whole world behind him which should say something to our country. We NEED a president that the whole world likes too because then maybe the whole world wouldnt hate us so much.

The whole world voting would make no sense at all. This is OUR country, other countries can worry about electing better leaders. If the US should stay out of other people's business, they should stay out of ours.

I think that would be sweet. But if we did that then we would have to vote for the countries as well which would not be cool.

I think it would be stupid if the whole world voted because they are not the ones who would be led and affected by our president.

The other part of the world don't need to know who is are president, they can worry about themselves

I think only the U.S. citizens should vote. It will affect other countries on whats going to happen on our economic side but still the rest is just mainly U.S. stuff.

I don't think that the world should vote for president because we don't vote for thier leader and totaling 6 billion votes would take a while.

i do not think the whole world has to get involved with our politics. they have no business in voting for our president.

Wow, that's a big lead. Obama might win the global election, maybe. This is a U.S. election though so it doesn't really matter what the world thinks.

there would be a clear winner if the whole world could vote. but the president isnt the president of the world. so just the US should vote for the president of our country.

there is no reason for other countries to vote for the president of this great state, if obama wins then there is going to be alot to pay for because he wants to give the illegal immigrants benefits that would collapse the social security for the people that need it,it wouldnt be there anymore because all the people hopping the border would be getting it instead of the people that have worked for it.

Obama would like that because his friends in the middle east would be voting for him Obamas middle east friends do not need to worry about the United States
NO Obama Vote MCCAIN

Obama would win hands down, think of it most of the worlds population is in Africa and china. and it would take a while but not if they had things done electronically. and they closed the polls on time or something.

i think we should not let the world vote for our leaders because then we should be able to do the same and not every state has the same way as in electing its officails

This is our country and while our president affects the world, it i our business.
