Holland Park School in London and Ku-ring-gai High School in north Sydney have begun taking attendance by using student finger prints. Students are identified and their time of arrival is recorded when they press a finger on an electronic pad located at entrances or in classrooms. If they fail to press they will be recorded as absent. A fingerprint scan of each pupil will be converted into a number that can be recognized by readers each time they press the pads. Some parents are upset with the fingerprinting of their children. They feel that fingerprints are private data and the school should not be accessing it for attendance. Some call it intrusive. Others say it violates right to privacy and treats kids like criminals. What do you think? Does this violate your constitutional right to privacy?

I don't really see anything wrong with it. What it comes down to is the same.. taking attendance. The only problem with it is what if they forget to remember to give their finger prints for each class.
That is a waste of money, why would they use fingerprints the machines aren't going to hold up, why not do roll call it would save a lot of hassle
I think it's a waste of money it is like they are being treated like criminals it's their finger prints that is private stuff I think they should remove that cause well if they are having that much trouble getting kids to come to school they have bigger problems on their hands.
I think its an efficient way to take attendance. Although I think schools have better things to spend their money on.
there is nothing wrong with that, i thing it is a good idea. that wouldn't make anyone feel like a criminal.
Scanning finger prints may make some students feel like criminals. If the machine fails, the old fashioned way of taking attendence would need to be done. It would also cost a good deal of money to install and maintain the equiptment. This type of devide may not be required to use for smaller, rural schools. On the other hand, scanning finger prints would be able to ensure the attendence of the pupils. Some teachers or substitues may forget to report absent students. Especially in larger schools where teachers don't know every student of a class. It would also eliminate ingnorance toward tardies.
i think it is a way better way to take attendance. Not taking up half the hour trying to get ppl to be quiet so you can see if everyone is here especially when its a bigger school it has to suck to take attendance by role call..
and a fingerprint isnt that private..you leave your fingerprints everywhere its like a drivers license, and then the kids fingerprints can go into a system..what if they get kidnapped or killed or get in trouble itll be easier to find them that way..
I don't see much harm in it. It's just a way to take attendance, but I also believe it wasn't that hard just to take attendance the normal way.
Grumble Grumble Grumble...
In a way its a good idea with all those students but what if there is a long line for the scanner and you don't get scanned on time are you counted tardy?
But then it would be a sure fire way to make sure students get to class on time.
especially in chine where there are a lot of students and they cant always know every one.
I don't really see what the big deal is about. its a interesting way to keep tract of people but i think it is a waste of money
i think that they should not finger print them i mean its they're life and they are almost treating them as crimanals
i think taking a roll call is jest fine. this whole fingerprint deal is a big waste of money.
SWEET that would be awesome if we took attendance like that. I think pretty soon we will be using our print for more things, like instead of passwords.
