Supreme Court Case

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear Pleasant Grove vs Summum. People who practice a religion called Summum want to put up a religious statue in a town park next to a monument of the Ten Commandments. The town, Pleasant Grove, Utah has turned them down. The religion's representatives are now sueing the town. The case's decision will impact religious freedom and free speech in public places. What do you think about this case?

I think the town should explain their reasons for not wanting the statue and see if they make since and have a legitimate reason or are just being stubborn. I think the case is worth hearing though. It will impact how our religion and free speech rights are looked at in the future.

If the town don't want it there they shouldn't be forced to. The people should vote. However, they should be allowed to have a statue just maybe somewhere else.

I don't think the town should be required to put up that statue. Religion shouldn't be mixed with anything, because not everyone is that religion. I get the whole freedom of speech and religion, but that's taking it a little far! Also if they don't get to put up their statue the one about the 10 commandments should come down, because everyone is their own religion so if they can put up a sign why can't the Summums! This is going to be a good case for the supreme court to discuss!

The town shouldn't have to let them put the statue up. If they want a statue put is on their own land and make their own ten commandments statue to put it next to.

I think that if the town doesn't want this there then it should give a better reason for not having the statue there. I think that if we really do have freedom of religion then the Summum's should be able to put up their statue right next to the Ten Commandments. I'm sure the whole town doesn't believe in the same God, so that's not fair for them to keep them of their rights. I hope the statue goes up!

Forcing people is wrong. If they don't want see statue there they should vote no and they put it somewhere else like parks said.

yeah i agree with everyone that this case will be very interesting.
but i dont think that they should have to put up a statue thing.
whats the point?
if people want to see someones religion..go to church?
idk but they should put up their little statue on their own land..that would make sense not just randomly in town.

I think that the summons should not put a statue by the ten commandments and that they should find a new place to place instead by the ten commandments.

the town should have a say in what is put in and taken out

If the town is able to have a statue related to one religion, they shouldn't have a problem with any other one.

If the town doesnt want it there they shouldnt have to have it there. Although it is freedom of speech. But religion is separate from everything else. What if you werent that religion?

I think if the christian religion has the freedom to put up their beliefs and there is freedom of religion, then why can't a different religion put up a symbol of their beliefs.? Either both get to put something up or the ten commandments should be taken down too.

If they want a monument why don't they put it next to their church or something.
