Democratic challenger Al Franken holds a lead of about 50 votes over Republican incumbent Sen. Norm Coleman, but this number does not reflect what could be more than a thousand improperly rejected absentee ballots still to be tallied.
No matter the results, officials have said there will almost certainly be court challenges.
The governor and secretary of state are barred by Minnesota law from making the election official until all legal proceedings have been completed.
The Coleman campaign is hoping the Minnesota Supreme Court will intervene over the issue of the improperly rejected absentee ballots because, it says, there is no uniform standard for local officials and the campaigns to review and count them.On Friday, the court asked the Franken campaign, the secretary of state's office, and seven counties to supply any response to the Coleman campaign's petition by Saturday morning.
Earlier, the high court ruled that rejected absentee ballots could be counted only if the Canvassing Board and both campaigns agreed that a ballot had been improperly rejected. The court ordered the parties to come up with a plan to review those ballots.
It's also possible for a legal challenge to be filed after the secretary of state certifies the results. The Coleman campaign has hinted at the increasing likelihood that it would again go to the high court, which could mean a resolution would still be weeks away.

I think they are right. If it's not confirmed they shouldn't be there. I think it's ridiculous that it took so long to figure out who won. They should just do it the old fashion way so we don't have to waste everyone's time!
I think this is taking way to long, and if they think someones has won, they should be seated. Minnesota has no one representing them, and we look like the crazy state now. Why is this taking sooo long! I think that they should be fair and count all the votes and stuff, but how come they messed up in the first place!....
I don't think that if Franken hasn't won then he should be able to be seated. But I think this process is taking way too long, and it shouldn't be. But i guess if we want accurate results, then we have to wait. s
They need to count those ballots and get the thing over with.
What a mess. I feel sorry for the people who have to sit there and go through the ballots over and over again. Hopefully they're being paid or compensated well.
I think that if someone hasnt been confirmed the winner, then they shouldnt be seated.
they should not seat him because of the votes that arent in yet, the people should say who they want and they should count all the votes
i think that they should just flip a coin or somethin so that it is quick and fair. rather than recountin so many times
they should recount the ballots like it would help some way
Grumble grumble grumble...
Yea i think its only fair to make sure its official
I think that they should do that because it is smart i think but only concern is how long will it take.
i totally agree if they haven't found out who won yet they should have a seat in the senate wait until everything is figured out. This should be over soon enough
i think they should seat him. i mean theyve done all the right things counted all the votes to be counted and coleman is just dragging it out by bringing it to a higher court.
You dont seat someone unless if its positive they won the election
I think that this is taking forever to figure out and we should just count votes and get over the fact that someone is going to lose.
i think it is ridiculous that it is taking this long. they should jest take the winner right from the get go and stick whit him. not do all this recount junk.
If it's not confirmed they shouldn't be there. But it's taking FOREVER for them to count balots. We are also spending WAY too much money for it.
That is true... Franken shouldn't be seated until it is official. So hurry up and make it official! He's the winner so why are they dragging it out...
i think they need to stop delaying and pick a winner i've also heard many diffrent numbers of votes that there are they need to get it straight
I think they are right, whoever takes the seat should be the undoubted victor of the whole thing.
