The recent governor is sixth in Illinois history to be arrested. Seventh if you count the one in the 1800's. Lennington Small served as Illinois governor in the 1920s, during which time he was charged with embezzling over $1 million in state funds. Small went on trial in 1922 while still serving as governor. These people are dumb. They just need to do their job and stop messing around. Dumb politicians once again!
many governors throughout the states history have done illegal business while in office. i think the state needs to be more careful when they run elections and see where peoples morals and ethics are.
George Ryan was one of the governors to be convicted of a crime. His crime was that he was illegally selling government licenses, contracts and leases. On November 7th 2007 he began serving his 6 year, 6 month prison sentence. How dumb...
Otto Kerner, Jr. was the 33rd governor of Illinois. In 1973, he was convicted on 17 counts of bribery, conspiracy, perjury, and related charges. This state has a really bad history of corruption in their state. They should be looking more on the background of these people and do some more thinking about who they elect.
Former Gov. George Ryan was convicted of corruption charges. He was convicted of steering state contracts and leases, including a $25 million IBM computer deal, to political insiders while he was Illinois secretary of state in the 1990s and then governor for one term. In return, he got vacations in Jamaica, Cancun and Palm Springs, and gifts ranging from a golf bag to $145,000 in loans to his brother's floundering business. Otto Kerner was convicted on bribery, tax evasion and other counts. Dan Walker served 1 1/2 years of a seven-year sentence after pleading guilty in 1987 to bank fraud, misapplication of funds and perjury.
