Gore, Gwyneth Paltrow Go Overseas To Rally Voters

Former Vice President Al Gore and actresses Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Hudson swept into London to encourage US citizens living in Europe to vote-and make donations -to the Democratic party.

"Every single day for the last two or three weeks we've been registering voters," said Miki Bowman head of the British branch of Republicans Abroad. "The lessons have been learned from 2000, that the ex-pat (ex-pat meaning ex-patriot-which is a term used to describe a US citizen living in another country) vote can be critical."

Both Republican and Democrats are working to round up the votes and dollars of overseas US citizens.
There are approximately 6 million US citizens who live overseas and are eligible to vote in the election.

Americans living overseas can vote in their home states by mail and can offer donations to campaign funds. Democrats Abroad said that only around 1 million voted in the 2004 election.

With the election getting closer and the race very close, both sides want to get as many overseas votes as possible.

Did you know about overseas voters? Are you surprised at the large number of US citizens living abroad? Do you think they should be allowed to vote in the election?

I never knew about overseas voters and that fact that there are so many is crazy! But I'm not surprised that so few of them vote. Some live overseas for a reason...and even if they do vote it not really effecting them because they don't even live in the country. Unless they come back in a few years. I guess they do have a right to vote, since legally they are US citizens. And its a good thing that those people are trying to get more votes and trying to get a lot of votes so then the election will turn out good, and not like last time when we all got stuck with a president who isn't very good and no one likes!

That is crazy that there are so many overseas voters! I never even knew about it! I think that its really good to get people overseas voting and getting them informed. I think they definitely deserve to vote, they are U.S. citizens!

If they're US citizens then ya they should vote. I'm suprised there's that many. But i'm suprised that a million voted. I didn't think they would since they were so far away.

That's crazy that there is so many American citizens living over seas i figure if they are a citizen they should just live in the U.S. They should also be able to vote because that's your right to vote as a citizen.

IF they are living overseas for something to do, they don't need to vote, if they are a citizen they can live in the U.S. If you overseas for work related stuff or military you should be able to vote.

i dont think that people that have not lived in the U.S for 2 to 3 years or more should not be able to vote due to they have left they're country

I knew there were a lot over seas, just not that much. The number that voted was believable, many probably didn't know they were eligible.

I didn't know we had so many over sea voters. I thought you had to live in U.S. and be in it to vote. I think if they are staying overseas they shouldn't have the right to vote but if they are comming back in like 2 years or so they should. They should put a limit on how long the oversea voters are there to vote.

and its random that they added in the little bit about the actresses with al gore.

I had no idea there were so many U.S citizens living over seas. I don't think they should have the right to vote unless they are living over seas for military or schooling reasons and plan on coming back to the United States. If a U.S citizen leaves the country to live somewhere else it obviously shows they don't care or support this country, so why would it affect them who the president is.

I think that they should count the oversea votes because the U.S. citizens are still part of the U.S.
