The school district of Harrold, Texas began allowing teachers and staff members to carry concealed firearms to school this year. They are hoping to deter and protect against school shootings. For employees to have a gun, they must have a Texas license to carry a concealed handgun, must be authorized by the district, receive training in crisis management and hostile situations, and use ammunition designed to minimize the risk of ricocheeting bullets. No other school in the US is known to have such a policy. What do you think? Would you be comfortable with this policy?

I'd be comfortable knowing that if there was a school shooting, there's a better chance of walking out. But how well do they keep the guns from students? Someone could just walk up and take it if they didn't have it put away.
i think it is a good idea in the since that someone can possibly stop a school shooting, but i do worry about them having the guns, because they could be overpowered also. i still do agree with it anyway though.
Yeah, there could be an upside to having the teachers carry a gun, like when a school shooting might occur, it could save peoples lives. But what if a student would get a hold of that gun...there is that possibility. Its putting the students at risk when letting the teachers have a gun with them, a student could take it and use it against the teacher and the students or the teacher could turn on the students to. You may never know what could happen. I think its to risky to let them carry guns.
If we put guns in the hands of teachers at school, are most of them going to be able to handle that situation? Yeah sure most of the police out there are trained and everything. But teachers might not be ready for that. And if they had to try to use the gun on one of their students, they might not be able to deal with it. I think it would potentially be a good idea if they had better plans but not right away. And easily the guns could get into the wrong hands!
I don't think the teachers need guns, if they want to carry them they don't need to have them visible. More than likely they wont need them but if they want to carry them they can.
I think it is just fine if teachers need to have the guns in school i mean if there is a shooting at least we now have a chance to fight back. I just don't want the teachers to get a big head just because they can now carry a gun.
The guns would be concealed, not out in the open to be taken. This is a drastic measure but but if it works then more power to them. If teachers would have guns, it seems that people would be less likely to have a shooting.
I would be comfortable with teachers having them if there was a school shooting. But there is risks with teachers carrying them. Students could try and get them if they werent put away.
There are pros and cons to this. If a teacher has a gun they could stop a school shooting and protect the innocent students. The bad thing is that there are students bigger and stronger that some teachers and could easily get the gun. If a gun ends up in the wrong hands it wouldn't be good.
i would feel more unsafe if i knew my teacher was carrying a gun with them in school.
if it came down to it would the teacher actually be ready to shoot a student, most likely one of their students...
a moment of doubt could get them killed and then it would have been pointless in the first place because the gun did no good.
and having a gun in school is just adding to the problem. There are many kids who are bigger than teachers and could easily get a gun from them or if they hid the gun in their room a determined student WOULD find it.
Um no not in this school, there are to many stupid people around here and some one would end up getting shot or something.
I think this is a smart idea. If i were a student there, it wouldn't be as scary knowing you have some protection. However, the students should not be able to access the guns at all, because that would make it even more dangerous.
i would feel comfortable with teachers that go through all that training to have a conceal firearm because hopefully with all that training they wont leave they're gun abroad for someone to use and its to protect the student as well as keeping threats away
it would be good to have a principal with a gun. but not the teachers because then the students can get the guns off of them quicker because they cant lock them up or anything like that. i still agree with guns in school but keep them where students cant get to them.
Guns in schools are not a good idea! Having a gun is out of hand, it's so dangerous. Kids would have an easy access to the teachers gun if they tried. It shows the kids that guns could be used anywhere like schools. I don't think guns should be in schools period!
I'd feel more comfortable knowing I could walk out of the school alive after a school shooting. How are you going to know that the teacher won't just randomly shoot it off? Or if someone could take it? There are many bad things that could happen.
I think that they should carry guns in school based on the person back ground. I would feel kinda scared because the teacher might have to use it.
If there was a school shooting, the teacher could protect the students better but what would happen if a teacher flipped out or if a student got hold of it.
i don't believe that teachers should have guns in school any more than students.
i kinda agree and disagree. it would be a good idea cuzz the teachers could save alot of lives. but yet the gun may get in the wrong hands and it could cause alot more damage.
